If you are serious about building a business online, then you need to treat it like a business and not a hobby.
In this series, I’ll take you through the three legged marketing system I use to drive my business forward and develop a healthy income.
Let’s get started… lets find out where you are in your business right now.Your online business is like your body. If one part is unhealthy the whole suffers. Click To Tweet
If your business is unhealthy you see symptoms like no sales, no leads, a lack of focus, too many tactics, a cold list and so on.
Each of the symptoms has it’s own remedy. But before you can diagnose the issue, you have to understand the parts of your business system.
Your online business is made up of:
- Your list building.
- Your means of keeping in touch with prospects and customers.
- Your place of authority, perhaps your blog.
- The products you sell, yours or other people’s.
- How you promote everything you do.
- How you manage your business.
Let’s take an example symptom…
If you have a cold list, one you’re not talking to, but then you will probably have a problem with the way you keep in touch. Maybe you are not keeping in touch at all. Is that because you may not be making any money when you mail so you stop bothering.
If you feel overwhelmed by the choices of tasks to complete and lacking focus, then you may need to look in the management area of your business.
All the sections of your business work together and support each other.
For example your authority site:- It can have signup boxes to build your list, host content pages with advertorial which are used in your promotion. While keeping in touch you can send people to your blog. The stats on your site tell you which topics are of interest to your audience. A series of blog posts can become a lead generation report or even a product.
Think about your method of keeping in touch, this can promote products and generate revenue. It can bring traffic to your authority site. Sending people to quality content deepens the relationship you have with them. Making them more likely to buy from you or take your recommendations. It also increases the likelihood they will promote your content to other people.
Bringing it all together is how you manage your business.
You need some form of management and review to give you your bigger picture. To set the strategy for your business.
Your management also works at the weekly and daily level to make sure you are focused, don’t ignore important tasks and keep the momentum going.
The diagram below shows the component parts we’ve talked about and how they fit together.
Take a few moments to think about your online business and whether you have all these areas covered.
Consider each area in turn, give them a score out of 10, then try and come up with an action plan to boost the weaker ones.
I use Excel to create a radar graph, as shown below, as I feel it gives me an instant feel for where I am.
Your task for today is to produce your own graph and identify your strengths and weaknesses.
In the coming articles, we will take a more in-depth look at each of the areas in turn and how you can improve them.
I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the above in the comment box below or email me directly.
